Miller Moments

We took Carter to the Rodeo on Saturday and left Cohen with grandma & grandpa. We haven't done anything alone with him since we had Cohen and so we thought it would be fun to take him to see the animals and events but he couldn't get over the smell in the barns. He kept saying "it smells awful in here, I want to go home". He did pretty well for the 3 hours we were there, since he didn't seem to be really interested in what was happening. It took alot of convincing and food to get him to watch the events.

We went to Dean & Christie's for Grey Cup, it was good because Carter and Easton play so well together and their house is baby friendly (rocker, baby monitor, etc). Below is the song that Carter learned at preschool, unfortunately it didn't help them pull it off.

Cohen is quite the night owl lately, he has been up until between 10 pm and 12 pm which makes it difficult to get much done in the evenings once Carter finally goes to bed at 9:30pm. Once Cohen lays down I am ready to hit the sack too.

The brothers had their first bath (of many) together with no real troubles. Carter has been "bath crazy" lately, he wants to play in there every night. Cohen has always liked the water and now splashes and kicks like crazy. Glad we have 2 boys that like to bath ... for now anyway!

Carter had his last gymnastics class on Saturday. I am so impressed with how well he listens to the instructor and his concentration. I think preschool has taught him alot. I think we will put him in soccer in the new year and maybe try swimming again.

Cohen is again teething and out of sorts lately. Our easy going, non-crying baby is having a rough time. We have had a few late nights and lots more crying than usual, it's hard to know what to do when your not used to having to deal with that.

I got asked to sub for my old floor hockey team on Friday night. As usual, there was only 4 of us and no spares so I ran my butt off for an hour. My calves, shins and hips are feeling it. I also managed to get a puck in the lip (fat & cut), shin and toe. We won and I scored 5 goals so I guess it was all worth it.

Josh is off to the Rider game today - he is like a kid in a candy shop. Glad the sun is out for a while so they don't freeze too much. Go Riders!

I went out with the girls on Saturday night and am "still tired". I planned to be home by 10:30 but got dragged to McNally's, glad I did though as it was fun. However getting home at 1 am after a few drinks and having to get up a couple times to put Cohen's soother in made for a short night. I went to kick class at 9:30am to sweat out the drinks. I know why I don't go out much anymore - being a mom is a full time job that never ends.

Cohen has a great little schedule these days (knock on wood), small 30 min naps every 3 hours and 1 big afternoon nap which usually overlaps Carter's nap so I get some housework done. At night he is sleeping about 9 hours and only wakes for a soother.

Carter got his progress report (report card) from preschool on Monday. He is doing very well in his math and reading readiness, with some work to be done in the social (interact, cooperate, take turns, etc. ) and fine motor (print, trace, etc.) development. Next week they are off to Petland for a field trip.

I took Cohen for his 4 month immunization on Thursday and he did really well, he had a very delayed cry which surprised the nurse and I as we thought he wasn't going to cry at all. He has made quite the gains since 2 months ago when weight was such an issue. He weighs a whopping 17lbs 3oz. This was with a shirt, diaper and shoes on though, as apparently they are so busy with H1N1 they don't have time to properly weigh, assess or check the baby's length. I understand but was a bit perturbed as I got called in 10 minutes early for my appt and there was no one after me so she could have taken the extra time with him. We measured him at home and he is 25 3/4 inches. At this age Carter was 15lbs 13 oz and 24 inches so Cohen appears to still be a bigger boy, in the 90th percentile for weight and 80th for height.

I went to get my H1N1 shot after Cohen, as they opened it up to mothers with infants under 6 months and for his safety I thought I better. I didn't realize that they also had opened it up to anyone under 65 with chronic issues that day. There was over an hour wait and when I got to the prescreening room it was about 50 deep and I had to get Carter from preschool in just an hour. I asked the guy what would happen if I had to leave and he pulled some strings for me to get me bumped ahead of the 50+ people waiting - my lucky day. I was out with time to spare to pick up Carter.

Carter was supposed to get his first progress report on Thursday but nothing was in his backpack - maybe next week. He got a stinky sticker the other day for knowing all his friends (the kids in class) names.

The door looks awesome and it really only took just over 3 hours - good work men!

Well, I think becoming a mother makes 50% of your conversations end up being about poop. I am on day 3 of using cloth diapers (well during the afternoon and evening anyway). The mornings I go to the gym or run errands so just use disposables until we are at home.
This morning Josh mentioned that "he" had a good poop, I assumed incorrectly that "he" meant Cohen so I didn't put a liner in the cloth diaper (not that it really would have helped). He had a good one all right - it was everywhere and like a helpful husband, he was gagging but trying to help clean up the disaster.

Dean has come over to help with the door today so Easton came along to play with Carter. It is great as I am off play duty for a couple hours. I have already got 3 loads of laundry done. It's amazing how much you get done when you don't have to build castles or play dinosaurs all day.

We are bbq'ing steaks tonight with Dean, Christie and the kids - looking forward to a good steak.

Cohen moved to his crib last night for the first time. I thought it was time as he was consistently going 10 to 11 hours between feeds at night and all the moaning from 5 am on was keeping us up (well me anyway). Of course, he decided at 2:30am last night he needed to eat but after that I got him settled back into his crib and didn't really hear him until 7 am, with the help of the soother he fell back asleep until 8 am. Hard to believe he will be 4 months tomorrow. He has his immunization on Thursday so we will find out how big he has gotten.


We took Carter to public skating last night and he did really well for his 1st time on skates this year and only 2nd time ever, as he lasted about 30 minutes on the ice. We will try to make it a weekly event. He has learned a new song about monkeys and alligators as it is "A Jungle in Here" theme for November at preschool. He has developed quite the "mad face" and attitude when things don't go his way, just what you would expect for a 3 year old. On the other side of it, he is quite an emotional little boy (takes after his mother).

We finally got our new door so hope to have Dean over on Wednesday to help Josh install it. Hope all goes well and it only takes the few hours that they think it will.

Unfortunately our trip to Edmonton with the Herback's is more than likely postponed for this year. The Herback boys have been sick and Marcia is just not feeling comfortable going with Jayden at this age as he is not real steady on his feet yet and can't tell you if anything is wrong. They had a real mishap last year with him and I think that is scaring her. I am on the fence, I wanted to go to get away with them but knew how much work it would be with a 4 month old - taking bottles, formula, kettle, bottle warmer, bassinette, etc. Washing and making bottles at home is a chore, let alone in a hotel room. It would have been fun for the older boys (Dawson, Carter, Steve and Josh) but alot of work with the little ones.
There will be many years in the future to plan a similar trip so I think not going this year may not be such a bad idea.

Carter got his H1N1 shot on Tuesday and did great, no crying. It was a bit sore last night so we put his Bob ice pack on it and gave him some ibuprofen, he was fine this morning. We will see how the next dose in 3 weeks goes now that he knows what to expect.

Josh and I went to the cabaret on Friday night, see picture below. No one from Josh's work ended up going so we didn't know anyone but it was nice to get out. I do like dressing up and seeing all the neat costume ideas. It was a woodstock theme but many people came dressed in other costumes as well.
