A woman's guilt....

We got home today around 4:30 pm after a refreshing weekend away, of course I was up early every morning just by habit. Unfortunately our team did not do that great and we lost 2 games and were out of the tournament on Saturday (I played well though so was happy about that). Josh got asked by a Saskatoon team to play as 2 of their guys were a no show at the last minute so he ended up playing way more than me and they placed 2nd.
Sunday I was feeling the guilt of wanting to go home early to see the kids and relieve my mom of her duties but also feeling guilty as I should stay to spend some quality time with my husband. The call home to my mom helped me make the right decision! She assured me everything was under control and I should enjoy my time away as it won't happen again for a long time - so I did. Thanks mom.
Carter was so happy to see us today and not sure what was going thru Cohen's little head but once I picked him up he barely let me put him back down again. I missed my beautiful boys but on the way home read an article in Today's Parent that being a great couple means being a good parent and it was all about balancing between your kids and spouse so it reassured me that I made the right choice.

Bismarck bound...

Well, we leave for Bismarck to play in a women's slopitch tournament. I am excited to get away with my hubby and hopefully get some sleep but will miss my boys immensely. However, I am sure that I will still wake up at the crack of dawn like usual.

Cohen has finally decided that milk is not all that bad again and has started to drink some. I am hesitant about forcing the bottle as he has pretty much weaned himself off of it. He just wants to be a big boy like Carter and drink out of a cup. As I have said before, he definitely has my sleeping genes as he is hard to get to nap and sleeps only about 9 hours at night.

Carter is going thru a real whiney stage these days, hoping it is just a phase. Other than that he is a great kid and getting to be such a big boy.

Rough Day

Thursday was the first day that the boys went to the babysitter to start the transition from mommy to sitter. The drop off went well and I barely even got a kiss or goodbye from Carter as he was already busy playing and Cohen too - so I left. The 4 hours flew by as I had appt's booked and a tight schedule. When I picked them up at 12:30 the sitter (Danielle) said that Cohen had a rough morning and cried lots. I forgot to mention to her that I can't leave the room or else he starts to cry and for her he wanted to be held most of the time. I have to remember that the first day is the toughest and he will be fine. (He has been crying when I drop him off at the gym daycare lately too which he had never done before so may just be another phase.) I am glad that they are going Mon & Tues morning and Wed all day this week to continue the transition. Danielle is on holidays the next week and the week after they start full-time so hoping all goes well this week. I also forgot to mention to Danielle how much Cohen eats and how unhappy he is if there is not a pile of food in front of him - she found out the hard way.

The rough day for Cohen continued when we got home from grocery shopping and he was at the front door holding onto the deacons bench. As I was putting away groceries and looked over he had walked along to the metal shelf and before I could do anything, he pulled it over on himself. He has a gash starting at the corner of his eye (thank gosh it wasn't any further) and a bruised nose and cheek.

Josh and I leave for Bismarck on Friday afternoon for my slopitch tournament and will be back on Monday. We are leaving the kids with the grandma's (mixed emotions - sad but excited) as lord knows it will take 2 to keep up to these 2 kids. I will worry lots (as usual) but know that they are in good hands and will be fine - I wouldn't be a mother if I didn't worry!

Good news

We had our appt with the pediatric surgeon for the cystic hygroma on Cohen's neck and he was not overly concerned at this point. He said that he would just like to monitor it over the next 6 months and if things worsened (i.e. it didn't regress itself and got bigger) then he would likely try an injection. While we were there, they weighed him and he is a whopping 26lbs. It never ceases to amaze me how much he can shovel in at one meal. I am sure he ate way more than Carter for supper tonight. He also mastered the sippy cup today and I really noticed an improvement in his hand coordination.

Carter had his last day of preschool, it was graduation for those moving onto kindergarten. Tomorrow is supposed to be the year end family picnic so we are hoping the weather holds out, as of course the forecast is for rain. Yesterday was Carter 's first day without a nap so I am hoping to start transitioning to a nap every other day so by September when he has to go to school in the afternoon he may not need one anymore.

I resigned from my old job at CUETS yesterday and accepted the offer from Mercer so am quite excited that everything is in place work wise. I have to start a week earlier than I was going to and go to Calgary for training for 2 days so Josh will have his work cut out for him getting the kids to daycare by 7:30 am while I am gone. The only thing I am not looking forward to is having to write my Life license, studying for 2 major exams with 2 small kids will not be easy!!!

Where to begin...

Where to begin as I am long overdue for a post!

We hosted the 1st Z99 block party and it was a hit. I think everyone had a great time and I couldn't believe the gifts we got - sunglasses, gift certificates, blackberry. It was definitely alot of work though before (set up) and after (clean up). We have tried to enjoy the hot tub as much as possible.
On Monday, I flew to Calgary at 6am for a job interview (no I am not moving to Calgary) as that is where head office is and the job will thankfully be here. It is the competitor to Aon, the company that I used to work for and I will be working with Ryan and Kim as they both left Aon for Mercer. It has been a very stressful past couple months trying to look for a new job (hard to fit in computer time to look when kids hardly ever nap and don't got to bed til 10:00) and go on interviews. I had hoped for something less than full time but apparently no employer is really that flexible so I settled for 7 hour days which should allow me a few extra minutes in the morning to get kids (there will be 2 this time) ready and home a little earlier to start supper as Josh will do the pick up.
I got food poisoning on Wednesday night and have not been in that much pain since labour. Today my stomach is finally feeling back to normal. Josh thankfully stayed home on Thursday to look after the kids. I was keeled over on the floor for the 15 minutes he was gone to pick up Carter, while trying to watch Cohen - it was not good! Just glad that no one else got it.

Cohen turned 11 months on Thursday and is one big boy. He is definitely a good eater, it is quite cute to watch as he is like a little conveyor belt shoveling it all in. I think this one got my sleep genes though- ugh! Just when you think he may have got tired out and almost falling asleep, he pops up in his crib and starts babbling and gets another wind. I thought babies were supposed to get about 12 -14 hours of sleep. We are lucky if he sleeps 8 hours a night and 1 - 2 hours throughout the whole day - heaven forbid he would miss out on any of the action! He is getting the hang of walking and has taken a step on his own, he has got real fast at crawling and good at going up the stairs (still working on the down part though). Still patiently awaiting his appointment with the pediatric surgeon next week. The growth on his neck (right side of his neck in the 2nd pic below) seems to be getting bigger and is just worrisome, however we have been assured that it is benign and not to be concerned - I will be happier on Tuesday!
Carter only has 2 days of preschool left, the last day being graduation for the 5 year olds and then a family picnic on Wednesday. Ms. Julie has an amazing program and am happy to have Carter back in it again next year. Hard to believe that the year is over already and it was great to be home to be able to take him. Last Thursday was Luau day - the pics show Carters outfit and his little dance to go with it.

Had one of the worst mom moments ever on Friday night, I had been planning to take Carter to Dinomania for 2 weeks and he was so excited as there hasn't been one since last summer. When we got there, it was SOLD OUT! I didn't even think to get tickets early and just assumed that getting them at the door was the way to go. I should have known that there are many kids as crazy about dinosaurs as him. I finally got him calmed down and agreed to go to It's a Blast (I was pretty much willing to do anything for breaking his little heart) but when we got there, neither of us had on socks so we couldn't go in - could the night get worse! I guess the only positive thing was, that it was a learning experience for him how to deal with the anger he was feeling and there was alot of it.

Bit of a scare

I took Carter to the pediatrician on Monday for his 4 year checkup and all is well with him. However, Cohen has had a lump on his neck for a few weeks and a nurse friend of mine said that it is likely his lymphnodes, as when babies fight off a virus or cold they can get swolen and may not go back down right for some time. So I took her advice and didn't worry too much about it as he eats and drinks fine and it has not seemed to affect him. When the pediatrician looked at him though, he said that it was not lymphnodes and he wasn't sure what it was as he had never seen something like it on the neck. He then proceeded to take pictures of it on his blackberry - I was starting to get a little scared by this time. He mentions that it might be some sort of a cyst but wants to send us for an emergency ultrasound so off to the Radiology clinic we go - even more concerned now! The radiologist confirmed it was a cyst, which was apparently a good thing. Back to the pediatricians office we went and he said that the ultrasound didn't tell him much more than he already knew and so he wanted Cohen to see the pediatric surgeon within the next 48 hours - really scared by this time. I waited for the call until the next afternoon and the surgeon's assistant said that we wouldn't get in for 2 weeks so I called back the pediatrician to tell him. A few hours later the pediatrician called back and said that it should be fine to wait that long as they believe it is a cystic hygroma and not urgent and they will likely give him an injection to bring down the swelling. So we are just to watch it to make sure it doesn't get bigger or infected. It is going to be a long 2 weeks.

On a more positive note, Josh won the first Z99 block party of the year on Wednesday morning so the focus shifted to cleaning the garage, getting the backyard set up, making jello shooters and stuff ready for the party on Friday. We got the hot tub set up today and the rest comes tomorrow - live band, outdoor heaters (we keep), Kia SUV (for the weekend) and food/beer for 50 people. Hopefully it will all go off without a hitch. There is an open invitation to all my blog followers to stop by and/or stay awhile for the festivities.
