Health issues...... an ongoing thing when you have kids

Carter had an appointment with the Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist this week to find out why his snoring and breathing is so bad. First Dr. Ogrady gave an information session to everyone and then saw each one of us individually. Of course as the "Wood" luck would have it, we were last one for the individual consultation. The decision is to remove tonsils/adenoids or not. They now just give you the information and let you make the decision. As with any surgery there are chances of complications - bleeding and going under with anaesthetic. The decision is to have them removed as Carter has a sleeping disorder - breathes heavy, gasps for breath, snores, chokes while eating, thrashes while sleeping and is tired all the time. So we are on the waiting list of about 6 - 9 months for the procedure. He will have to stay at home for 10 days afterwards so nothing to take lightly. Carter asked if it will hurt and I had to be honest and say yes!

We are still waiting to hear back from Cohen's pediatric surgeon on when he will be getting his injection for the cystic hygroma. It is of course a 5 minute procedure but as he would not still for it, he will need to be put unde
r with anaesthetic as well.

I just have to remember that although all these procedures are scary, it is for the best and could always be worse!

Cold but busy weekend!

As it was still cold Saturday morning, we headed to the church on the east end where Carter's buddies from school's parents set up a winter festival - 5 bouncers, movies, face painting, balloons etc (kid haven on cold winter day). In the afternoon, we had a play date with cousin Kaden and then hockey that night. Carter was determined to score a goal as "auntie" Karen came to watch and he wanted to impress her. He was self-coaching before the game saying "Carter you need to focus on the game" - over and over. He is still a one leg pusher but once that other leg gets going he will be fast!

Carter getting a tattoo!

Cohen having a blast on the slide!
Carter wiped out in the bouncer.
Sunday night we had a steak night that the kids were able to come with and did amazingly well in the restaurant setting. We rewarded them by stopping at Chuck E Cheese on the way home. Cohen loves it there, he says "money" so he can have coins to play games and then "game over" and wants more "money".

Chatting with other parents, we laughed at how our lives have changed - hanging out the bouncer facility rather than a pub! It was a fun family weekend and wouldn't trade it for anything.

2 1/2 years old.....and growing up!

Hard to believe that Cohen turned 2 1/2 today! He is getting to be quite the little man but also still seems so young as the words are still not quite flowing and we can't get rid of that soother! His speech is definitely progressing, as he has started to put 2 or 3 words together. We have been working on colors and some days I think he has got it and others, he thinks everything is "yellow" (maybe I should move onto a new color)! We started gymnastics again tonight and it is the class where they transition on their own with the teacher. I think the majority of the kids were 3 or older so he did pretty good to keep up. I was near by for the first 10 minutes but then ventured into the bleachers to watch from afar. He did great by staying with the class and listening to the teacher. We will soon be registering Cohen for preschool in the fall.

Carter continues to be a man of many words, you can just never guess what will come out of his mouth but it is always interesting! His kindergarten teacher asked him to be a helper in class and so he didn't have to do his "math" and instead was to help out one of his classmates! We are very proud and hope that he is being challenged enough in kindergarten. Carter is back in tennis and continues with hockey to keep him busy.

No more babies anymore, my little boys are growing up so fast - I cherish every moment that we have as every stage seems to go by so quickly.
