Quality Time
To some quality time is spending time with others watching tv, going to movies etc. but to me it is working together as a team to get things done - whether it be laundry, yardwork etc. With 2 small kids it is difficult to find time for everything as they always want to play. I try very hard to make chores into a game and remind everyone that the faster the work gets done, the more time for playing.
I struggle with having things done "right now" when I ask, rather than "later". I think men in general have a natural tendency to relax first and work hard later - the difference between men and women. For me, I don't sit down until everything is done - which some days seems to be never. As part of our journey in marriage, I have learned to ask once and he has learned to get to it. We work great as a team and Josh is always willing to help.
This weekend we spent outside, getting ready for fall while grandma & grandpa entertained the kids - as lord knows Carter wanted to be on the roof with us and Cohen was helping pick up leaves - by throwing them everywhere.

Fall will be busy...
On the sickness front: Cohen appears to be finally over the flu - no more puking and sleeping much better at night - thank gosh! Hopefully now that it made it's way through our house it won't be back. Carter is just finishing up his medication for an ear infection.
Cohen has a new little trick - he has learned that if he opens up the cupboard and pulls out the big box of goldfish crackers and brings them to us he will get food. His little way of letting us know he is hungry - it is so cute. He has got a tonne more teeth so that may have been some of what we thought was the flu too.
Carter is back in the Ready Set Learn preschool and we have put him in gymnastics, swimming and sports for shorts so is keeping busy these days - actually keeping him active and us busy getting him everywhere! Soon it will be time to get his skates out too!
I am going to sub on a woman's hockey team this year and am going to Victoria in February for a woman's ball hockey tournament. Hoping my back and hips will hold out. I have also started studying for my Life License - requirement of work not because I enjoy studying. I have a fat textbook to read and a 4 day course to go on before I write the 2 exams. Definitely hard to fit in studying time with 2 little ones, working full-time and a household to keep running. I will definitely be happy when it is done.
Josh starts hockey too this week so our nights are going to fill up fast.

14 months & the flu
14 Months old and not a little baby anymore!

He loves to sit in the musical chair & ride on the rocking horse.

Carter & Cohen going for a little run on the treadmill.
Cohen turned 14 months on Friday and once again I am a little late with pics & a posting. However, for good reason this time. On Wednesday night Cohen was hesitant to drink his bottle and then puked on himself, me and the chair 3 times. He was up half the night and that morning he woke up at 5:40 with a disgusting diaper. Carter had a headache all day Wednesday as well, so Josh stayed home with the boys on Thursday morning. By noon all seemed well and off to the sitter they went. It wasn't until Friday afternoon that Cohen had another bout out both ends at the babysitter and that night Carter got it too as he was sick all day Saturday and couldn't even keep water down.

We had a wedding to go to on Saturday night and had planned on taking Carter. My mom came over and looked after the kids while we went for a late birthday supper and to the wedding. We got home much later than I thought we would due to sleep deprivation all week but we were having a good time. My poor mom ended up getting sick early Sunday morning and most of the day. I have had a stomach ache but have managed to ward it off. Here's hoping it had left our house!

Long weekend festivities
All in all, our long weekend was pretty good.
Josh helped his grandpa shingle his aunt's roof on Friday night and most of Saturday so it was me and the boys. I took them to the dragon boat festival in the morning and there was lots for kids - dino bouncers, face painting, McDonald's mascots, coloring and ring shooting. It was great that we went in the morning before it got busy.
Saturday night was a rough one with Cohen, not sure if it was teeth or what but he cried almost non-stop for 3.5 hours. He would fall asleep as he was exhausted but wake as soon as I would try to put him down. Josh and I were beside ourself with what to do. He finally gave in around 2 am and fell asleep with me downstairs.

Sunday we went to the Hicke's for the pre & post Rider game celebration. Cheryl offered to take Carter with them so I could get Cohen to nap and maybe myself too. It was a fight again with Cohen but he did manage to get some sleep - me on the other hand, not so much. I just got things ready for the party, as it was pot luck. We left Cohen with my mom and just had Carter at the Hicke's for the post game party. It was nice to be able to visit and not worry about the baby for once. I had quite a few birthday drinks and lots of food and laughs. I even bought my own DQ icecream birthday cake to celebrate - it was a hit.
Monday was pretty low key and I got lots done around the house. We had family over for cake and coffee for a small celebration.
Reflecting on 36 years
As I turned 36 today, I have realized the older that we get, the quicker time seems to go by - especially since having kids. It is funny how the days actually seem to be long but the weeks just seem to fly by. As I was planning my parents 50th anniversary this year, I took some time to look thru old photo albums and it seems like yesterday that I was Carter's age. I have so many fond memories of my childhood.
Some days it is hard to believe that I am a wife and mother of two of my own children. I do feel that this is one of the best times of my life, I have a great husband & children, a career, wonderful friends, my health and a great family who loves and supports us.
Thanks mom and dad for intsilling such great morals and values in me as a child. I hope to pass them onto my children as well.
