Christmas with kids............. so enjoyable!

Christmas Eve we had over Josh's mom, grandma, grandpa and aunt, as well as my mom to play some games and visit before Santa came. The kids stayed up until after 9:30 pm so we weren't sure how early they were going to get up the next morning. It was around 7:45 am (they slept in) when the first one came into our room. Cohen finally woke Carter at about 8:20.

Janet came over to open gifts with the kids Christmas morning. I tricked the kids into thinking that Santa didn't come, as they were no "new" presents under our tree. I then mentioned that maybe he came down the other chimney where we have the little Christmas tree - and there were the gifts.

Cohen was so cute this year, he cheered every time he opened a gift and Carter tore into everything like a maniac - it was a success!

After the kids opened all the gifts from us, we got ready to go to Uncle Derek & Aunt Laurie's for brunch and to exchange gifts with cousin Kaden. We stayed and played there until just after noon and then went home for lunch /nap.

Carter and I went to my mom's and Josh and Cohen went to his aunt's to visit. They came over to mom's for supper along with Derek, Laurie and Kaden. It was a wonderful day but we missed you dearly dad. Hope you were watching over us as we wished you were there.

The plague hit ..... aka the flu!

Last Saturday night we planned a date night but of course as we rarely ever go anywhere without the kids, we drove around the city aimlessly wondering what to do. I got a rock in the windshield and we ended up at Brewsters only a couple blocks from our house. It was nice though as Josh and I had some adult time to "catch up". However, shortly after we got home I heard Cohen calling for daddy and went up to check on him and he had puked everywhere on his pillow and kept mashing his face in it as he was so tired. I picked him up and he projectile vomited all over me (luckily I hadn't got my jacket off yet) and his bedroom floor. That continued for about 2 hours until 1:30 am. The next morning he was fine and we ended up meeting Josh and Carter at the Evraz Christmas party. I thought it must have been food poisoning for how quick and severe it came on. Then on Monday night just after supper Carter said his tummy hurt and off to get the puke pail we went! He did the same the rest of the night but had it out the other end too - 3 pair of pj's later :( it finally subsided but he didn't bounce back quite as quick so grandpa Janet was off and looked after him on Tuesday. Then she ended up with it on Wednesday and Thursday.

Apparently I didn't make it scott free either as Thursday morning my guts were rumbling but had the morning off to get some things done so ventured to the grocery store feeling horrible. I made it through the shopping but got sick in the parking lot and spent the rest of the day in bed. Josh managed to avoid it all together - lucky guy.

Planning to take away Cohen's soother over Christmas - will be harder on us then him - well maybe. Soon we hope to start potty training as well but as per the picture below he is maybe not quite ready. Haha!

Potty - not quite the right end!

Busy weekend again with swimming Friday night, Carter having a birthday party Saturday afternoon and us having a friends Christmas party Saturday night. We then entertained Josh's family (grandpa, grandma, mom, brother, sisterin-law and aunt) for an early Christmas brunch celebration on Sunday morning to mid afternoon. I took the kids sledding in hopes to tire them out with some fresh air.

Christmas Party Crazy....

Carter performed wonderfully at his Christmas concert but unfortunately I ran out of memory to get the best song with all the actions - oops! Here is a taste of the concert anyway.

Saturday was Josh's mom's kids Christmas party for work. They had a magician, face painting and of course Santa. Cohen was scared of him at first and wouldn't go get his present but slowly got used to him after awhile. Saturday night we went to Government House for the Family celebration they were hosting. Carter had been on Friday with school so it was not much different except for the sleigh ride they had but since so many people came to take in the festivities the line up was over 45 minutes long so we never did get to go on the sleigh.

Sunday morning was Evraz's kid's Christmas party and since Josh still works a few shifts every once in a while he got the invite. It was at Paradise Cinemas and they had mini golf, face painting, Christmas movie and Santa.

It is still a week and a half until Christmas and the kids already have got more gifts than they need. We have so much to be thankful for and should appreciate all that we have during the holiday season. I would trade it all to have back those loved ones we have lost - miss you so much dad and Laur.

Busy boys - with pictures!

Dawson & Carter at tennis lessons.

Carter has his Christmas concert this week and we can't wait to see him perform. We had his parent-teacher interview a week ago and got his Progress Report - the teacher is very happy and impressed with such a smart boy we have. She said that she wishes she was able to challenge him more but some of the other kids are not at his level so can't leave them behind. We are so proud of what a smart young boy you have become Carter. Big shoes to fill for your little bro!

Cohen's talking much more these days which has reduced the frustration level for everyone. I am currently worrrying about where to send him for preschool in the fall, can't believe how quickly that came. Unfortunately, his cystic hygroma has grown huge in the last couple days and got hard, so we are concerned. We have an appointment with the specialist tomorrow so will be glad to finally find out why it has changed so drastically and quickly and that hopefully it is still not harmful. It is now starting to bother him so we definitely want to get it tended to before the new year.
