Miller Moments

I took Carter to the pediatrician on Monday for his 4 year checkup and all is well with him. However, Cohen has had a lump on his neck for a few weeks and a nurse friend of mine said that it is likely his lymphnodes, as when babies fight off a virus or cold they can get swolen and may not go back down right for some time. So I took her advice and didn't worry too much about it as he eats and drinks fine and it has not seemed to affect him. When the pediatrician looked at him though, he said that it was not lymphnodes and he wasn't sure what it was as he had never seen something like it on the neck. He then proceeded to take pictures of it on his blackberry - I was starting to get a little scared by this time. He mentions that it might be some sort of a cyst but wants to send us for an emergency ultrasound so off to the Radiology clinic we go - even more concerned now! The radiologist confirmed it was a cyst, which was apparently a good thing. Back to the pediatricians office we went and he said that the ultrasound didn't tell him much more than he already knew and so he wanted Cohen to see the pediatric surgeon within the next 48 hours - really scared by this time. I waited for the call until the next afternoon and the surgeon's assistant said that we wouldn't get in for 2 weeks so I called back the pediatrician to tell him. A few hours later the pediatrician called back and said that it should be fine to wait that long as they believe it is a cystic hygroma and not urgent and they will likely give him an injection to bring down the swelling. So we are just to watch it to make sure it doesn't get bigger or infected. It is going to be a long 2 weeks.

On a more positive note, Josh won the first Z99 block party of the year on Wednesday morning so the focus shifted to cleaning the garage, getting the backyard set up, making jello shooters and stuff ready for the party on Friday. We got the hot tub set up today and the rest comes tomorrow - live band, outdoor heaters (we keep), Kia SUV (for the weekend) and food/beer for 50 people. Hopefully it will all go off without a hitch. There is an open invitation to all my blog followers to stop by and/or stay awhile for the festivities.
